It represents the four groups of the army: the warriors who fought on elephants, the cavalry, the charioteers and the infantry. From India the game went to Persia where it was called Shatranj. Once upon a time, on a hot summer day, a crow became very thirsty. He flew here and there in search of water but could not find any. Suddenly, he saw a pitcher in a garden. He flew down and looked inside. There was only a little water at the bottom, and his beak could not reach it.

The crow was very clever. He saw some pebbles lying nearby. He picked up the pebbles one by one and dropped them into the pitcher. Gradually, the water level rose up to the brim. The crow drank the water, quenched his thirst, and flew away happily.

Moral: Where there is a will, there is a way.
